Woven, jersey or French terry
Hemp woven
Hemp yarn woven into a flat cloth, closer to linen than to a t-shirt. It has body, so it hangs off the shoulder rather than clinging, and it takes a soft crease the way linen does. Starts crisp; ten washes in it is a different garment. This is what dresses, shirts, trousers and jackets are cut from.
Jersey knit
A stretch knit, almost always a hemp-cotton blend. Hemp is low-stretch, which is exactly wrong for a t-shirt that has to stretch over your shoulders and then return — so the cotton supplies the recovery. That is why tees, tanks and long sleeves are blended rather than 100% hemp.
French terry
A heavier knit with flat loops on the inside face rather than brushed fleece. Warm without being hot, it does not shed lint and it does not pill on the inside after a season. This is what the hoodies and joggers use.

How should I wash this?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors. Tumble dry low or line dry — line drying keeps color longer.
Skip fabric softener. It coats the fiber and works directly against the thing hemp does on its own, which is soften with each wash. Softener on hemp is money spent cancelling out the reason you bought it.
Will it shrink?
No. Finished garments have already been through the process that makes hemp shrink, so washing this normally will not surprise you.
What confuses people: hemp fabric bought by the yard absolutely does shrink on its first wash, which is why every yardage guide says to pre-wash before cutting. That warning belongs to the fabric, not to the clothes.
Why is this blended rather than 100% hemp?
The answer is mechanical, not economic. Hemp fiber is strong and low-stretch — exactly what you want in a woven cloth and exactly what you do not want in a knit that has to stretch and recover. A jersey at 100% hemp pulls on and stays pulled: the neckline goes, the hem goes, and it does not come back.
So wovens run 100% hemp, and knits carry cotton for the recovery. Both are doing the right job for the garment they are.
Does hemp feel scratchy?
New hemp woven feels stiffer than most people expect, and that is the single most common first impression — along with the single most common reversal. Hemp softens with wear and washing rather than thinning out, so month six is better than week one.
Knits are soft from day one, because the cotton in the blend does that work immediately.
